Arabische Nächte

The weekend started busy and stayed busy.
In the morning I did my 16 mile long run that took me over the Indian River bridge to Merritt Island and on Tropical Trail all the way to Crooked Mile Road and lasted two hours and 17.5 minutes. It was noon when I climbed back into the truck and drove to Wal-Mart for some shopping.
Back home Jon and I had lunch, the potato salad from last night and I reorganized the food cabinet in the kitchen. It took me a while but I’m so glad I did it, because there’s so much more space now and everything is much easier to find.
When I got done with that it was already time to shower and get dressed, because Stephanie, Jeremy and Shelly picked us up to go to a dinner show in Orlando with them and their grandparents who turned out to be very nice and active people who spend their winters in Florida, their summers in Michigan and like to ride their bikes around the trailer park a lot to visit their friends.
Her grandma’s husband Ron knew a place where we could get tickets for half the regular price, so we went there first and got to the show right in time to get a drink and watch a magician do his tricks as a pre-show event. Some magic that he did was pretty amazing, but we were standing so close that we could figure out some of the tricks and how he did it. It was nevertheless fun to watch and a nice performance.
The main show was Arabian Nights, mainly a show with horses, that developed around a – somewhat flat – story about a girl’s birthday who’s dreaming about a prince and meeting a genie to help her. Of course, there’s also another bad prince involved (they made his horse’s eyes shine bright red in the dark). They show horse themes around the world, from gypsies over cowboys and Indians to the ancient Romans and in the end everything works out well towards a happy ending because there’s the black stallion as a deus ex machina to help.
The horseback riding, driving and the tricks they did were pretty good and we really enjoyed the show. The dinner they served while we were watching was quite the opposite. There were five entrees to chose from and they were all bad. I had pasta primavera, that’s the fancy name they put on overcooked noodles with cheap tomato sauce and stale cheese along with four little pieces of broccoli and old dinner rolls. The other meals were the same way and even the ice-cream they served for dessert was bad, but as we’d mainly come for the show and paid only $25 each we weren’t too disappointed.

After the show we went to Old Town in Kissimmee, an amusement park Jon and I hadn’t been to before. They have a drag race attraction where we got into that car on rails and they accelerated us to 100mph within a few seconds so we could feel all these g-forces pulling on us. There was also go-cart (which the others rode) and laser tag on an inflated air matress that was more fun than I thought it’d be.
We didn’t do any of the other attractions because it was getting really late and we got home just before midnight.
It was a fun night and definitely some new experiences there for Jon and me, that we really enjoyed.
