That was a long eventful day.
It started driving to Cocoa Beach to drop off Carole’s computer at the district office. I’d planned to go swimming on the base as every Monday, but when I looked out the window of the big office building and saw the ocean, I decided to swim there instead. The waves were heavy, but it still looked very inviting and I wasn’t really in the mood for lap swimming in the pool. I had my drypak with me which I could keep my GPS in to track my swim.
The water was warm enough to jump right in, but the waves and strong currents made real swimming impossible, especially as it was for the first time this year. I swam for only eight minutes and went back to where I thought I’d stored my bag. It wasn’t there! I almost got a shock, but then I realized that I was looking in the wrong spot. I ran over to the next board walk entry and there it was! I put my goggles and the drypak back and headed out for a 3 mile run on the beach. I didn’t even bother to put on shoes or any other clothes, but ran barefoot in my sports bikini. That worked very well. The tide was low so there was enough hard sand to run on and I could also run in the water every once in a while to cool off.
After the run I put the camera in the drypak and went back in the ocean to cool down and take some movies and pictures of the waves.
It was time to get some groceries at Publix in Cocoa Beach and go home to pack and eat lunch. My parents gave me their nice suitcase to take to Washington.
Jon came home when I was eating and put our luggage in the truck. I took a shower and we left the house at 1:15 to have enough time at the airport to park, check in, etc.
Unfortunately we couldn’t fly in the same plane because his was already book out so I had to take a later one to Ronald Reagan National Airport while he was flying to Dulles.
I had books and the laptop with me, so the wait wasn’t too bad.
In the plane I sat in the middle, crammed between to strangers. I can’t believe how little room they give you in those planes. I couldn’t even move my arms without touching my neighbors. Flying with Jon is much nicer.
Anyway, we made it from Orlando to Washington, I called Jon and he was already in the rental car heading towards me. I got some candy and iced tea and unpacked the laptop, but he got there much sooner than we both had thought.
We drove past the government buildings to Virginia where we’re staying at a really nice hotel in Sterling. We have our own suite with a living room/kitchen area. No problem about spending two days here.
Jon got dinner at Burger King – and I couldn’t resist the Hershey’s Sundae pie, gotta get back on track with my diet! – and we called it a day.

See more progress on: take one photograph each day as a way to document my life.
