I figured out where to stay the nights yesterday. There will be some motels and two hostels.
The hotel in Key West is already booked for $73+tax which is actually a good price for the area.
Maybe Jon and I can camp on the keys on the 23rd, but that would mean to cramp a tent, sleeping bags and an air mat in the car that will already have to hold the bike on the way back on christmas day.
Anyway, I went out and got myself a somewhat larger saddle bag and found an amazingly cheap bike rack to fasten behind the seat. I might not even have to carry a backpack now which would be a great relieve. I also got some patches and travel toilet paper. Looks like I won’t have to buy much more stuff now.
Finding the right book for the road took me a long time, but I had already expected that because I ALWAYS spend a long time in a book store. I finally decided to get “blue highways A JOURNEY INTO AMERICA”, a story about travelling America’s back roads.
I can’t wait to get going on my first road adventure in Florida. Although it’s only going to last a couple of days I’m really excited and happy about it.
I just don’t know how much being away from my family over christmas is going to make me sad. I’m glad that I’m taking this trip to do something completely different this years.
Jon and I are also going to have lots of fun spending christmas eve on the beach!
